Joe Blute, that is what my friends called me and a stage name was born. I am an American actor born and raised in New York. The never-ending artistic journey began at the age of 11, participating in middle school productions and continuing throughout high school. An appetite for ‘living truthfully under imaginary circumstances’ transitioned from a child’s imagination and evolved into a man’s determination.
After high school I attended the two-year conservatory program at The Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute (New York), after attending their teen program the year prior. Nothing but pivotal experiences and beautiful memories came about from spending two years ‘in the chair’ at LSTFI.
Graduating from Lee Strasberg came and went. I was thrown into the real world only to discover that the path of any artist is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s a lifetime dedication that is not defined by the jobs you book, the money you make, the perceived social status that tails us along, but the yearning passion to express the truth everyday. The truth of humanities behavior and reaction to life.
The recognition for the value of the words above brought many other avenues for artistic expression. I began creating my own short films, writing feature-length screenplays, bringing myself to any stage in and around NYC. From two-man plays, to theater companies, to original works, I have been blessed to perform all over the NY region.
The never-ending work has broadened my horizons not just artistically, but geographically as well. Having been cast in films which brought me to Hollywood opened a door to a whole new market. As for the work, that never stops. The training continued with world renowned acting teacher, Jack Waltzer; attending the two-year program at the William Alderson Acting Studio for the Meisner technique; and, the Tess Kirsh Acting Studio. Acting has also brought me across the pond to train at the Rose Bruford School in the UK.
The day-to-day grind is what defines my artistry. I gravitate to teachers, directors, and other actor-creators that immerse themselves in the technique of a fulfilled creative process that breathes the truth into every artistic portrayal. Outer circumstances are ever-fleeting, but the work is what you can control each moment at a time. As James Dean said “The gratification comes in the doing, not the results.”
